Eric Redmond

Driver Biography

Eric Redmond turned his first laps in any style of race car in the summer of 2002. It was a birthday present from his parents and he was eager to get behind the wheel of a Bandolero at the newly constructed paved 3/8-mile Lake Erie Speedway located in North East, Pennsylvania. Joseph J. Prischak, owner and CEO of LES, contributed to Eric’s start in racing by doubling the number of laps his parents had paid for. That was all it took. Eric was hooked and it was off to the races.

Eric was fourteen years old when he took those first few laps in 2002. His first race was May 3, 2003 when he finished a strong third place. Each race built his confidence more as well as understanding how a car feels and what adjustments to make. On August 9, 2003, Eric raced hard and finished in Victory Circle at Lake Erie Speedway – his first career feature win. He won on a night when NASCAR stars Michael Waltrip, Kevin Harvick, Dave Blaney and Greg Biffle raced at the same track. Eric had a strong 2003 season, finishing sixth in the LES point standings.

After the 2003 season, a team meeting was held to discuss goals for the 2004 season. Eric had set himself a substantial goal of finishing in the top ten in the Bandolero’s national scoring system, INEX. Accomplishing the feat would require racing at many more tracks across the country, while still learning, in just his second full season of his career. In the span of the six-month INEX sanctioned points season, Eric raced at six different race tracks in six different states. He again raced a full season at Lake Erie Speedway in Pennsylvania, but also added a full season in the Tom Gill Chevrolet K.O.I.L. tour at Kentucky Speedway in Sparta, Kentucky. Back to back appearances were made in the Bandolero Nationals event at Sunny South Raceway in Grand Bay, Alabama and at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds in Nashville. The team also made several races at Grundy Count Speedway in Illinois and at the Speedrome in Indianapolis. Racing at all these tracks during the 2004 season resulted in over thirty feature events for Eric. The highlight of the year was Eric winning the Inaugural Summer Nationals event at Kentucky Speedway in July. Eric qualified on the pole and led every lap for the feature win. He finished the 2004 season with six feature wins. A strong run of finishes from that big win vaulted Eric to a fifth place finish in the INEX/Young Guns national point standings – a fabulous year for a young teenager just completing his second year of racing.

Eric’s goals have been set for the 2005 season. He is sixteen years old now and will be racing in the Bandolero Outlaw Division. The Outlaw Division, still nationally sanctioned by INEX, is for drivers aged sixteen and older. The competition will be stronger, but Eric has set a goal of a top five in national points and that can be achieved with an Outlaw National Championship certainly not out of the question. Eric also wants to climb into the Legends Division, which are scaled down coupes of the past. The Legends race cars race all over the United States.

Eric is also a member of the United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps in Erie, Pennsylvania. His division is the Brig Niagara. He completed his boot camp in 2003. This year he spent two weeks at the Pax River Naval Air Station in Maryland learning to become a pilot

Besides his general studies as a sophomore at Girard High School, Eric has begun his first year of training in automotive technology at a local technical school. His very active lifestyle has made him a positive role model that his friends and peers look up to. He promotes teamwork and enjoys meeting people whether it’s at the racetrack, at a public appearance with the race car or outside of racing in everyday life.
